NEWSStarting February 15, 2024, applicants are to submit their applications for residence permits for visits through an e-application on the website of the Swedish Migration Agency. Applying online shortens the total waiting time since applications will be handled digitally and no longer sent by mail from a mission abroad to the Swedish Migration Agency. A digital application is submitted via the Swedish Migration Agency website and you pay with credit/debit card. Read more about how to submit you application below. After having submitted an application through the e-service, applicants will be contacted, by e-mail, with information on the next steps.
Visit Sweden for more than 90 days – apply for a visitor’s permit - MigrationsverketThe threat to Sweden and Swedish interests abroad was already classed as heightened. In light of the fact that two Swedes have been killed in Brussels following a terrorist act, Swedes abroad are encouraged to exercise increased caution and vigilance, and follow the advice of local authorities. Swedes abroad are also encouraged to register on the list of Swedish citizens abroad, and download the UD Resklar app and activate push notifications for the country in question.
Register on the list of Swedish citizens abroad (only in Swedish)A Schengen visa is required for persons of certain nationalities who wish to visit the Schengen countries. A Schengen visa can be issued for a maximum of 90 days. U.S citizens do not need a visa to visit Sweden if the visit is 90 days or less. Visa applications for travel to Sweden can be submitted to one of the VFS Global Visa Application Centers in the USA.
